Chris Bowie is a senior associate in our Technology, Intellectual Property and Media team based in Glasgow. 

Before moving to CMS in 2018,  Chris worked at Aberdeen plc for almost four years as an in house legal counsel in their commercial legal team and advised on several commercial contract, outsourcing and data protection matters. In the last few years, Chris has spent time on secondment at Sainsbury’s Bank plc, Phoenix Group and Barclays Bank plc and has developed an excellent understanding of the issues and risks facing in-house legal teams, particularly in the financial services sector.

Chris has extensive experience in advising on commercial technology projects, IT outsourcing agreements, SaaS and other cloud arrangements, intellectual property, software licensing and data protection matters. He has also been involved in a number of complex sponsorship arrangements relating to some of the most high profile sporting events in the world. 

His clients in the United Kingdom include domestic and multinational companies, start-ups and leading financial services companies.

  • A large UK Insurer on several outsourcing projects under its business services agreement with an international business process outsourcing and professional services company (including support on various service additions, variations and insourcings since 2019).
  • A large UK Insurer on several outsourcing projects related to its payment execution services agreement in place with a leading Indian multinational technology company.
  • A global investment company and asset manager with its multi-million pound outsourcing of its IT estate to a leading US IT supplier.
  • A large UK bank in relation to its outsourcing agreements which underpin its travel money offering.
  • A large UK bank on the outsourcing of its entire contingent worker services function with an estimated spend in the hundreds of millions.
  • A multi-national consumer brand on: (1) its multi-million-pound worldwide sponsorship deal with an international football governing body and the related ticketed arrangements in respect of that deal; and (2) its sponsorship arrangements with two English Premier League football clubs (including to ensure that our client’s branding was on view at live English Premier League matches and FA Cup games hosted by these clubs).
  • Nuvei on its sponsorship arrangement with the Mercedes FI team. 
  • An international sports federation on the implementation of a new sponsorship agreement template for use across its various sporting events.
  • A Scottish sports governing body on the review and update of its disciplinary protocol and procedures.
