Daniel is a Partner in the Energy & Climate Change Team, specialising in transport decarbonisation and e-mobility. He recently held senior legal and executive roles at bp Pulse, Pod Point and fleet and depot electrification specialist, VEV. He has a deep understanding of the sector and helps his clients develop strategy, new business models and contractual frameworks to scale as well as navigate the evolving regulatory landscape and associated legal and operational issues. He is known for his practical and commercial approach.

Daniel brings a strong ‘client-side’ perspective on the transport & energy transition, having helped leading companies in this space with project execution, M&A, financing and establishing new revenue models from grid flexibility and international market expansion. His core experience is as an energy and infrastructure projects lawyer having spent over 10 years at a global Tier 1 firm, advising investors, developers, lenders, utilities and offtakers on power and infrastructure projects around the world. He advises on all project documents, including concession agreements, supply contracts, construction, O&M, PPAs and other offtake agreements being developed within different procurement, regulatory and financing frameworks. 

Relevant experience

  • Head of Legal and Compliance at VEV (part of Vitol Group), advised in relation to strategy, regulation and the provision of EV charging infrastructure together with on-site solar PV, battery storage, and grid flexibility services to large bus, truck and van fleets.
  • Group General Counsel at Pod Point, advised in relation to M&A and joint ventures, financing and network investment as well as product and business model development. Led the function responsible for legal, compliance, cosec, data privacy, ESG and sustainability functions.
  • Lead Counsel at BP Pulse, in relation to strategic initiatives such as the roll-out of the bp pulse public charging network, the development of large EV charging hubs for fleet and public use, international expansion and EV charging technology procurement and development.
  • Engie in relation to a number of renewable energy projects, including concentrated solar power and onshore wind developed in South Africa.  In particular, advised on the performance testing of the facilities and the pass through of key equipment warranties from the subcontractor group.
  • Fotowatio Renewable Ventures in relation to all project development documents, including the adoption of a multi-contracting construction strategy, and PPAs for two large solar PV projects developed in Jordan.
  • Low Carbon Private Equity Fund in relation to advising Low Carbon on their receivables financing arrangement for a “lighting as a service” business supply into various international markets.
  • Solar PV Corporate PPA - Advising a global corporate buyer of renewable energy from 3 solar plants in the UK. Drafting and negotiation of PPAs with each of the generator and sleeving agent. Advising on associated commercial contracts, regulatory advice and structuring.
  • DEWA in relation to the concession, construction, O&M and PPA contracts for the 1GW Mohammed Bin Rashid Solar Park built in Dubai, UAE.
  • Industrial Development Corporation in relation to the financing and development of a 3.8MW Biogas plant built in South Africa under a PPA wheeling arrangement with a local BMW car manufacturing plant.
  • Platina Partners Infrastructure Fund in relation to the project financing and development of a number of onshore wind farms, utilising financing from a combination of multilateral development banks, across Europe.
