Gareth Watkins is a Consultant in our Insurance and Reinsurance group, based at our Sheffield office. Before retiring as a partner in legacy firm Nabarro, Gareth served on the Board, as a sector head and led the Sheffield litigation department. He is a former judge, a published author and an experienced commentator on his areas of interest.

Gareth’s first exposure to high profile litigation came in the 1984/85 miners’ strike and the blizzard of employment cases which followed. Later, Gareth led the defence team in Griffiths v BBC, one of the UK’s largest ever group actions.  The case featured over half a million claimants and the trial took a year to complete. After founding Nabarro’s well respected health and safety practice Gareth’s team worked on behalf of a number of leading corporates at inquests, public inquiries and in the court of appeal.

Since stepping down as a partner Gareth has co-founded a theatrical production company which has promoted original writing and taken productions to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and regional theatres. He also has an interest in coaching and developing skills in public speaking and presenting.
