Gillian is a Senior Associate in the Technology and Media team at CMS.

She advises clients across a broad range of commercial and technology matters, including drafting, reviewing and negotiating framework and master services agreements, SaaS and cloud arrangements, software licences, collaboration agreements, B2B terms and conditions and other commercial contracts. She also has extensive experience advising on data protection and privacy matters.

Gillian has acted for a diverse client base, ranging from global financial institutions to high-growth technology businesses, a major entertainment venue and leading energy companies.

Relevant experience

Ongoing retainer-based support to a leading global financial institution, delivering strategic legal advice on procurement contracting and leading the negotiation and remediation of complex global framework agreements with multiple suppliers.
Industry-leading consultancy specialising in pensions, benefits, investment and wealth on a wide range of commercial arrangements, including negotiating Master Services Agreements and a Framework Agreement with a UK retail and commercial bank.
An analytics platform and technology start-up in the energy sector on the development of its core contractual suite, including SaaS and professional services agreements, as well as advising on and negotiating B2B terms and conditions.
The world’s second busiest entertainment and events venue on a wide range of commercial agreements across its national arena portfolio, including drafting and negotiating venue hire agreements for global conferences and multiple supply and sponsorship agreements with major brands. Gillian also solely led the venue’s GDPR compliance project.
A wide variety of clients on GDPR and wider data protection matters, including drafting privacy policies and data processing and data sharing agreements, advising on cross-border data transfers and data protection aspects of commercial transactions (including business transfers and outsourcing arrangements), managing responses to data subject access requests and data breaches, and delivering tailored training programmes.
Eight months secondment to SSE, providing commercial contract support to the Distributed Energy division, whose vision and solutions seek to help the UK achieve net zero carbon by 2050. A particular focus of the division was offering solutions to help decarbonise power, in respect of smart cities and providing infrastructure for electric car charging.
