Hayley Stevenson is a Senior Associate in the Insurance and Reinsurance Group at CMS, bringing more than 15 years of specialist experience advising insurers, insurance brokers, and a wide range of professionals on complex liability matters. Hayley is widely recognised for her work on liability issues affecting insurance brokers and solicitors, as well as for her expertise in Directors & Officers insurance, advising on both defence and coverage matters. Hayley has also acted in a number of reinsurance disputes and arbitrations. She is the co author of Insurance Broking Practice and the Law, one of the leading English legal texts in the field.

Before joining CMS in 2009, Hayley worked at Novae Syndicates and completed secondments with both a major international broker and a London market claims team. This combination of in house, market, and private practice experience enables her to deliver advice that is not only legally robust but grounded in a practical understanding of how the insurance market operates day to day.

  • A law firm in a claim relating to the existence and scope of a solicitor’s retainer (Pennar Homes Limited v Fieldfisher LLP & Others).
  • A broker in the defence of a claim relating to COVID losses by a hotel group (Delta Portfolio Property LLP & Others V Property Insurance Initiatives Limited (In Members’ Voluntary Liquidation)).
  • Aon in a claim relating to COVID BI losses (57 Whitehall SARL v Aon UK Ltd).
  • Gallagher in Equitas Insurance Ltd v Arthur J Gallagher (UK) Ltd..
  • Miller in the very public case of Cardiff City Football Club Ltd v Miller Insurance Services LLP.
