Julia is an Associate in the Infrastructure, Construction, and Energy Disputes team based in CMS’ London office.

Julia advises clients on dispute avoidance, management, and resolution of commercial disputes in the energy and construction sectors, usually with an international element. Her experience includes advising clients on high-value commercial disputes, arbitration (under institutional bodies such as the SIAC, ICC, LCIA, and ad hoc arbitrations under the UNCITRAL Rules), and various forms of alternative dispute resolution.

Admitted as a solicitor in England & Wales, Julia has also completed an in-house secondment with Shell’s Global Litigation Team. Julia regularly provides pro bono advice to charities.

Relevant experience

  • An international oil and gas drilling contractor in an UNCITRAL arbitration seated in London, concerning claims against its employer in relation to the effects of COVID-19 and potential force majeure under a drilling contract regarding a rig mobilised onshore Kuwait.
  • A multinational engineering corporation in a dispute arising from the construction of a supercritical coal-fired power plant in Indonesia. 
  • A coal trading company in a Singapore seated SIAC arbitration in relation to disputes arising out of a sale of a cargo of coal from Indonesia. 
  • A petroleum exploration and production company operating in the North Sea in relation to a potential dispute with a co-venturer arising under a joint operating agreement. 
  • An independent oil and gas company in an ICC arbitration seated in Paris concerning the termination of a series of service contracts in Chad for civil works. 
  • An energy company operating in the North Sea in a dispute arising from a contract for provision of helicopter services. 
  • An international dredging contractor in a Singapore seated SIAC arbitration in relation to disputes arising out of the dredging and reclamation work for the construction of a 2 x 700MW coal fired power plant in Malaysia.
  • An Israeli independent power producer in an ICC arbitration seated in London governed by Israeli law concerning the termination of a gas sale and purchase agreement. 
  • An English infrastructure company on an adjudication against its sub-contractor arising in relation to the construction of an energy from waste plant.
  • An oil and gas services company on a potential dispute with a customer leasing electrical submersible pumps and related components in Sudan.
