Karen is a Senior Associate in the Construction team, specialising in construction drafting. She advises a range of employer, contractor and funder clients on drafting and negotiating contract documentation for both public sector and private sector projects including Framework Agreements, Construction Contracts, Professional Appointments, Collateral Warranties and Guarantees and, in particular, contracts within the NEC3 and NEC4 suites.

She acts for a number of developers on a wide range of projects in both Scotland and England. 

Relevant experience

  • Balfour Beatty on the £227m Midland Metropolitan Hospital, Birmingham.
  • The City of Edinburgh Council on a high profile construction project within the city, based on NEC4 contract terms and arranging for the documents to be signed against tight timescales and across jurisdictions.
  • Pinebridge Benson Elliott on the development and disposal of a number of warehouse projects, including drafting the original construction documents and negotiating both sale and funding documents.
  • Hargreaves Land on the development of a new town on a disused coal mining site, including carrying out Earthworks and Infrastructure Works at the site, negotiating with Network Rail and Transport Scotland regarding access to the Site, and negotiating the sale of plots of land to a number of house builders.
  • Advising a number of Real Estate Investment clients on the contracts for retro-fitting solar panels onto inner city office buildings.
