Kate Holbrook has been with CMS since 2006 and was promoted to Of Counsel in the Insurance and Reinsurance Group in 2022. Kate has specialised in clinical negligence since 2011 having previously been involved in a number of UK-wide personal injury group litigations involving former coal miners and general defendant personal injury work.
Kate deals with complex, high value and multi-defendant clinical negligence claims involving GPs, private consultants and dentists mainly for the Medical Defence Union & Dental Defence Union. As well as representing members in the defence of their claims, she brings part 20 contribution claims against NHS Trusts and deals with medical device related product liability claims.
Kate is a well-respected and trusted adviser in her field and has been instrumental in settling multi-million pound claims at a significant discount for her clients. Her extensive experience with this type of work gives her excellent insight into how to grapple with the varying complexities of the clinical negligence claims she defends (be that liability, medical, co-defendant or quantum issues) and how to navigate them effectively and sensitively for her clients and for the individual clinicians involved.
As well as being a go to lawyer for her clients and peers, Kate takes on a significant mentoring role for more junior members of the team.
