Katy qualified as an Associate in the Planning Team, having spent 18 months of her training contract working in the team. With nearly ten years of legal experience spanning two continents before joining CMS, Katy has also gained experience in commercial property, real estate finance, litigation and environmental law.

Katy has experience of advising in relation to large scale energy and infrastructure projects, consenting onshore and offshore wind developments, the compulsory purchase process and providing advice in relation to other statutory schemes. She also has experience advising clients in connection with regeneration projects for mixed use development.

Katy is actively involved in CMS’ Diversity & Inclusion networks and is a committee member of both the Women’s Network and the Social Mobility Network at the firm.

  • SSE on planning and consenting issues raised in connection with its £635m disposal of stakes in Stronelairg Wind Farm and Dunmaglass Wind Farm.
  • Red Rock Power in relation to the Inch Cape Offshore Wind Farm, including a successful hearing relating to its onshore transmission works application which was called-in by the Scottish Ministers.
  • Beatrice Offshore Windfarm Limited in relation to the refinance of Scotland's largest offshore wind farm.
  • A client in relation to planning matters arising in connection with the £100m acquisition of the Leonardo Innovation hub, a research and development complex in Edinburgh.
  • Murray Capital Group in relation to the sale of Exchange Plaza, a landmark Edinburgh building.
  • A client on planning and environmental issues in the £600m sale of its student accommodation portfolio with properties in Edinburgh and Glasgow.
