Kayleigh Garforth is a Senior Associate in the Pensions team at CMS and has over 10 years of experience within the legal sector. Prior to joining CMS, Kayleigh trained and qualified as a pensions lawyer at an international law firm and helped to establish a pensions team at a regional law firm. Kayleigh advises both employers and trustees on all aspects of pensions law. Kayleigh also has extensive experience in acting for public sector clients and acting on contentious matters. 

Her recent experience includes advising trustees and employers in relation to scheme change and consultation exercises, scheme funding negotiations and security documents, scheme mergers, employer debts and apportionment arrangements, anti-avoidance legislation, rule amendments and consolidations and providing bespoke trustee training. Kayleigh also advises sponsors and trustees on day to day queries, such as the interpretation of pensions legislation and scheme rules, member queries and complaints.     

Relevant experience

  • The Trustee of the British Steel Pension Scheme in relation to its £15bn pension restructuring.
  • The Trustees of 11 of the Carillion Group Pension Schemes on matters consequent upon the insolvency of Carillion Plc.
  • Part 8 equalisation proceedings and Part 7 professional negligence proceedings.
  • The trustee of the £12bn The Pensions Trust on day to day issues.
