Kirsten Thompson is a Senior Associate in the Pensions Team.  She joined CMS as a trainee solicitor in 2006 and qualified into the pensions team in 2008.  

Kirsten advises pension scheme trustees, sponsoring employers and industry providers on the full range of contentious and non-contentious issues, both as a long-term adviser and for discrete transactions.  Her clients span a number of sectors including energy, retail and financial institutions.  She has considerable experience of de-risking work, representing trustees, employers and insurers.

Relevant experience

  • Complex scheme merger arrangements involving sectionalisation and de-sectionalisation issues and use of innovative trustee board structures.
  • Advising on GDPR and associated data breach issues, including preparing clients for quick-response scenarios with targeted training.
  • Trustee and employer clients in Part 8 applications for directions at the High Court and Court of AppealDispute resolution work including IDRP, Pensions Ombudsman, mediation and Court processes.
  • Representing Group Trustees for two Groups of the Electricity Supply Pension Scheme. 
  • Advising on buy-out of quasi public sector arrangements and multi-billion risk transfer transactions including associated reinsurance arrangements.
