Natalie is an Associate in our Infrastructure, Construction and Energy Disputes team based in Aberdeen.

Having spent a year in the team during her traineeship, since qualifying in August 2020, Natalie has assisted the team with managing and resolving disputes for the oil & gas industry (for example, joint venture disputes, company/contractor disputes and providing advice on regulatory matters) and for the construction industry (for example, payment disputes and delay and defective work claims).

Natalie has also taken an active role in both diversity & inclusion initiatives and corporate social responsibility initiatives within CMS. Natalie is currently a member of the CMS Women’s Network. Natalie has also been a volunteer for the Mock Schools Project, Legal Experts in Schools Programme and is currently volunteering as an English tutor for The Access Project.  

Natalie has also written case comments for the UK Supreme Court Blog, which is run jointly by CMS and Matrix Chambers, and profiles all disputes which call before the UK Supreme Court.

Relevant experience

  • JV dispute/removal: working as part of a close team on an expedited trial over a three-month period in the English High Court regarding the first contested removal in the UKCS of an operator under a joint operating agreement, in which our clients were successful (TAQA Bratani Ltd & others v RockRose UKCS8 LLC [2020] EWHC 58 (Comm)).
  • An oil & gas company in relation to an additional costs claim, as a result of restrictions that arose in respect of Covid-19, from its contractor.
  • An energy company on withdrawal from joint operating agreement and transfer of operatorship under a joint operating agreement.
  • An oil & gas company on a dispute regarding the correct cost allocation of emissions allowances under the EU Emissions Trading Scheme in terms of the Processing and Operating Services Agreement in place between the parties.
  • Oil & gas operators in relation to environmental protestors planning, including by way of emergency court orders.
  • Insolvency in the supply chain/payment disputes: drafting responses to correspondence from creditors and seeking instructions from the client on a daily basis. Providing ongoing support in relation to numerous demands/court writs for multi-million pound claims.
