Nicholas is an Associate in the Energy and Infrastructure team at CMS. Nicholas has gained experience in the renewable energy, construction, finance and transport sectors and has advised on a range of complex large-scale transactions across the UK and internationally. Nicholas was named as a key lawyer in Legal 500, 2023 for Infrastructure Projects in Scotland.

Nicholas is also a solicitor member of the Law Society of Scotland’s Energy Law Sub-Committee and regularly advises on policy developments and industry consultations.

Relevant experience

  • Equitix and TEPCO on their purchase, operation and maintenance of the Triton Knoll offshore transmission assets valued at circa GBP 570m.
  • Equitix and Kyuden on their purchase, operation and maintenance of the Seagreen Phase 1 offshore transmission assets valued at circa GBP 621m.
  • Balfour Beatty PLC on the sale of a portfolio of Offshore Transmission Assets, Roads, Streetlighting and Energy from Waste projects across the UK.
  • A joint venture between National Grid Electricity Transmission and SP Transmission on the supply of two HVDC converter stations for the Eastern Green Link 1 project.
  • Boralex Limited on two joint ventures for the development, construction, and operation of two separate windfarm projects located in the North East of Scotland.
  • Boralex Limited on the acquisitions of the 25MW Upper Ogmore Wind Farm and 34MW Tom na Clach Extension project.
  • Muirhall Energy on the sale of three windfarms located in Scotland.
  • ERG S.p.A. the Italian listed renewable energy developer and operator, on its acquisition of Broken Cross Windfarm in Lanarkshire, Scotland from BayWa r.e AG, for GBP 60m.
  • Vattenfall UK on the Turbine Supply Agreement for the Clashindarroch II Wind Farm.
  • Vattenfall UK on a bespoke tree felling services agreement for two prospective large scale wind farm developments.
  • An international electric power generation, transmission and distribution corporation on a subsea cable repair services framework agreement.
  • ConocoPhillips on their entire North Sea upstream asset disposal to Chrysaor valued at USD 2.8bn.
  • Caledonian Maritime Assets Limited (CMAL) on the purchase of MV Loch Seaforth from Lloyds Banking Group in 2019.
  • NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde on the Design, Construction and Maintenance of new mental health wards at Stobhill, and new health centres at Greenock and Clydebank.
  • Transport Scotland on the lease of two DHC-6 Twin Otter aircraft from Loganair to service the Highlands and Islands lifeline air services.
