As traditional sources of capital for public sector infrastructure projects become more constrained, the public and private sector are seeking out different funding solutions for the provision of essential infrastructure.

Having advised on projects with a combined value of over GBP 16bn in the UK alone, our top-tier Infrastructure & Project Finance Group has been at the forefront of the industry for over 20 years. Advising on ground-breaking projects , our 200 lawyers work on projects in the UK, Central and Eastern Europe, Western Europe, the Middle East, Turkiye, India, Africa, Asia and the Americas.

We work closely with sponsors, lenders and the public sector in projects across all types of infrastructure. This spread of clients ensures our practice is market leading - particularly in the fields of PFI, PF2, PSBP, PPP, NPD, construction and services, infrastructure investment, development, finance and M&A.

The CMS UK team acts on some of the most challenging, high profile projects in Europe and Africa (e.g. Thames Tideway, Mersey Gateway and the Azura-Edo IPP in Nigeria). Our experience in emerging markets assists clients as they develop new markets.

Working together with clients, we are at the forefront of project structure and funding solutions, including social infrastructure, renewable energy, energy storage and economic infrastructure space. Experience of traditional project finance solutions and more innovative approaches means we can advise on all infrastructure projects regardless of complexity or challenges.

Once a deal has reached close we maintain relationships with our clients based on an understanding of the original documents and the construction and operational issues that may arise. This continuity of advice means that we have extensive experience of advising in relation to operational matters, including voluntary and negotiated terminations, variations and disputes.
