Nicola is a contentious tax lawyer with experience acting on complex cases at every stage of the courts and tribunals system, including the First-tier Tribunal, Upper Tribunal, High Court (restitution and judicial review hearings), Court of Appeal, Supreme Court, Privy Council and Court of Justice of the European Union. Her practice covers the full disputes lifecycle from protection against a dispute, to active litigation.

Prior to joining CMS, Nicola was a Director at KPMG working on a variety of tax disputes matters for taxpayers including FTSE 100 clients, oil and gas, insurers and brokers, HNWI and pension schemes.

Nicola advises on procedural matters in relation to HMRC assessments and enquiries, including in relation to disclosure. Additionally, Nicola has experience of international matters such as double tax treaty issues, the mutual agreement procedure and the provision of post-Brexit advice in relation to tax issues.

  • Fund on international tax dispute management.
  • Multinational on cross-border loss relief claims and procedural matters.
  • A group of over 10 pension funds and multinationals on Brexit protective action, including the preservation of claims for overpaid tax and procedural advice on closure notices.
