Pete Coyne is a partner in our Pensions practice with over 20 years of experience.

Pete has dealt with all kinds of pensions issues including benefit restructurings, buy-ins and buy-outs, longevity swaps, product design, transactions, investment matters and disputes. He acts for trustees, employers, product providers and benefit consultants across a whole range of pensions issues.

Pete was a member of the Association of Pension Lawyers’ Legislative & Parliamentary Committee for 6 years and subsequently a member of its Main Committee for 4 years.

Relevant experience

  • General Electric on UK pensions issues including the merger of 17 of its UK final salary pension schemes, benefit change projects and many transactions.
  • Pension Insurance Corporation on many bulk annuity transactions including PPF+ cases, collateralised transactions and those involving the insurance of residual risks.
  • Trustees on a number of longevity risk transactions and buy-in/buy-outs.
  • The only reported case on actuarial negligence which was successfully appealed to the Court of Appeal.
  • Trustees of one of the first schemes to enter a PPF assessment period.
  • Trustees and employers on asset backed funding structures.
