Rory is an Associate in the Pensions team and joined CMS Manchester as a newly qualified solicitor in 2023. He has a range of experience in contentious and non-contentious matters, advising trustee and employer clients in both private and public sector pension schemes of varying sizes. 

Rory has advised clients on a wide variety of pensions matters including work on GMP reconciliation, reviewing and assessing risk on contractual arrangements between advisors and trustees in the run up to buy-in/buy-out transactions and dealing with litigious matters that have been escalated to the Pensions Ombudsman and the High Court. He has also advised trustees on data protection and data sharing issues that were considered as part of wider transactions.

Relevant experience

  • Trustees of a defined benefit scheme in relation to equalisation of member benefits.
  • On the advisory aspects of on-going insurer buy-in and buy-out transactions.
  • In a consolidation exercise of trust deed and rules of a large defined benefit pension scheme.
