Sam is an Associate in the Real Estate team at CMS. He is an experienced planning lawyer (2021 admission) with expertise in advising on developments across the country, from the most high-profile and politically sensitive schemes to householder applications and neighbourly disputes.
Sam’s practice focusses on advising clients on complex issues in planning and highways law; planning appeals and call-ins by the Secretary of State and Mayor of London; Judicial review proceedings and statutory challenges; listed buildings and the historic environment; development on green belt and Metropolitan Open Land; reviewing and de-risking planning applications and maximising the prospect of obtaining planning permission; and drafting and negotiating property agreements which are conditional on planning and planning, highways and other statutory agreements.
Sam’s clients include multinational companies, household names, renewable energy developers, sports and event companies, hotels and student accommodation providers, and many other types of developers, owners and occupiers.
He is known for the quality of his technical advice, the exceptional service he delivers and the breadth of his understanding and interest in client’s businesses.
