Thibault is a Partner in the Pensions Team.  He has extensive experience of advising pension scheme trustees, employers and providers on the full spectrum of DB and DC pensions issues.  

He has a broad practice, advising pension scheme trustees, employers and insurers/providers on both business as usual matters and transactions and restructurings, including: benefit queries, benefit restructurings, funding arrangements, investment, pensions tax, litigation matters, Ombudsman investigations, scheme transactions and scheme governance.  Thibault also has wide ranging experience in advising both trustees and insurers on bulk purchase annuity transactions, including residual risks buy-ins.

Thibault is recognised in client feedback as “a great communicator” and clients praise his “pragmatism”.

Thibault sits on the Association of Pension Lawyers’ DC and Investment Committee and is a member of the RSA’s CDC Forum.  He regularly speaks at events and roundtables on pensions matters, in particular on investment, DC schemes and CDC schemes.

Relevant experience

  • A trustee of a multi-billion-pound, sectionalised scheme on its complex restructuring, including a three-way demerger, closure of some sections to future accrual and implementation of a new funding package.
  • Trustees and insurers on a wide range of bulk annuity transactions, ranging in size from GBP 10m to multi-billion pound deals, many of which included residual risks elements. 
  • The trustees of a number of multi-billion-pound pension schemes on investment issues, including in-house OPS firms, ESG and employer related investments. 
  • A German employer on the closure of its UK pension scheme to future accrual. 
  • Potential entrants into the commercial CDC market on the structure of their potential CDC scheme. 
  • A provider in relation to a project to establish a new DC pensions product combining a guaranteed income stream with flexible withdrawals.
