Tom is the Global Head of the Hotels & Leisure Group at CMS, based in London, where he is a corporate partner. As such, he specialises in mergers & acquisitions and in particular company and business acquisitions and joint ventures in the hotel sector, for clients such as AccorInvest, BlackRock, citizenM, Ennismore, Fattal Hotels, Henderson Park, Oaktree Capital, Schroders and a number of other investors.

He also advises owners, investors, developers, banks extensively on hotel management and franchise agreements across most brands and has advised several global and niche operators on their standard form management agreements. He advises banks on the corporate and management agreement aspects of hotel acquisition & development financings; refinancings; and restructurings of hotel portfolios.

In the legal directories, he is ranked Tier 1 in Chambers 2022 and a Leading Individual in Legal 500 2022. He is a member of the IHIF Advisory Board and Hospitality Channel’s Hospitality 250 list of global leading individuals in the sector.

  • Henderson Park on its acquisition of 12 Hilton-branded hotels in UK and Ireland and the Klarent Hospitality business from AroundTown and LRC Group.
  • Arora Group on the acquisition of Luton Hoo Hotel and Golf from Elite Hotels.
  • Schroder Real Estate on the €96 million acquisition of the Tryp Apolo Hotel Barcelona from Varde Partners and leaseback to Melia.
  • Fattal Hotels (with Pandox) on the £800 million acquisition of the 36 Jurys Inn Hotels group and the £115 million acquisition of the Midland Hotel, Manchester.
  • Accor on the UK aspects of its EUR 4.4 billion demerger of the AccorServices and AccorInvest division.
  • Oaktree Capital and Westmont in relation to a portfolio of 16 UK Hilton hotels, including enforcement of debt, refinancing, new management / franchise agreements and subsequent sale of all 16 hotels to ten separate buyers.
  • BlackRock on the acquisition and manageback of the Hilton Garden Inn Birmingham Airport from Castlebridge.
  • Ikos Resorts on its acquisition of hotels in Corfu, Greece from the Chandris Group.
  • Bain Capital and Canyon Capital on the acquisition of six luxury De Vere Hotel & Golf Resorts across the UK and integration into the QHotels operating platform.
  • Lore Group on its £100million acquisition of The Pulitzer Hotel, Amsterdam, £150 million acquisition of the Ace Hotel, Shoreditch London, and the Mondrian brand management agreement for the Sea Containers Hotel, London.
  • Advising operators such as Accor, citizenM, Corinthia, Cycas, Ennismore (Hoxton), EQ Group, Ikos Resorts, Malmaison, PPHE Group, Standard International and Sydell Group on their standard form hotel management and franchise agreements.
