CMS has appointed David Pygott as Of Counsel to the firm’s Financial Services & Products team in London. David joins CMS from Allen & Overy, where he was a Senior Associate in the Banking, Finance and Regulatory Litigation Group.
David is an experienced financial services litigator, with specialist knowledge in regulatory investigations and contentious financial services work. His practice includes defending banks and other financial institutions in cross-border regulatory investigations, including investigations into many of the most high profile industry issues in recent years, such as the alleged manipulation of benchmarks. He has also advised financial services firms on the conduct of internal investigations, the handling of regulated complaints and the defence of associated investor litigation. In addition, David has significant experience advising on bribery and corruption matters and anti-money laundering issues.
CMS’ Financial Services & Products team has welcomed a number of new hires in the last 12 months. Partners Jason Brooks and Thomas Lockley, and Counsel Susann Altkemper, all joined the firm in late 2015, broadening its resources and capabilities and underscoring CMS’ pre-eminence in the sector.
CMS’ Head of Financial Services, Paul Edmondson, comments: “We are pleased to welcome David to the team. His appointment follows in quick succession of the appointments of Jason, Thomas and Susann. David’s extensive experience handling FCA, SFO and other complex cross-border investigations will add significant weight to the team and supports the continued growth of our global practice.”
Commenting on his appointment, David said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to join a dynamic and growing team, handling cutting-edge investigation work at a time of continuing regulatory change. It’s great to be here.”
