The UK is currently facing an energy supply crisis. Wholesale energy prices have sky-rocketed in recent weeks with the regulatory price cap remaining unchanged. This has contributed to, as of October 2021, 15 energy supply companies ceasing to trade since the start of the year.
For the remaining energy supply companies the challenges are ongoing as they enter the winter and manage the customers of those failed suppliers and mutualised costs across the sector. This note from CMS reviews the possible outcomes under the regulatory framework for energy suppliers.
