Law Commission: Decentralised Autonomous Organisations

12 Jul 2024 (UPDATED: 13 Mar 2026) United Kingdom 1 min read

This scoping paper considers how DAOs can be characterised and how the law of England and Wales might accommodate them now and in the future.  It discusses areas of regulation in England and Wales that may affect DAOs, including money laundering and financial services regulation and taxation.  Amongst other matters, the Law Commission recommends that consideration should be given to clarifying the position of DAOs and collective investment schemes as defined in FSMA.
