SNE-GV Consultation: System Suitability of Battery Storage Systems in Austria

On 27 February 2026, E‑Control launched its two‑step consultation on the System Usage Charge Principles’ Regulation (SNE‑GV). Market participants may comment until 20 March 2026, with the revised charges planned to enter into force on 1 January 2027.The draft regulation defines principles for determining system usage charges and sets criteria for “system‑beneficial operation” of storage, generation and consumption facilities. Storage facilities that qualify as system‑beneficial may receive a full exemption from grid‑usage and grid‑loss charges for 20 years from commissioning—an important incentive for BESS developers.
