Whilst diversity and inclusion is a hot topic right now, the construction industry remains one dominated by white men with women only making up 15% of the industry workforce, with the figure even lower for BAME and disabled employees at 6% respectively. Although steps are being taken to make the industry more diverse, discrimination remains a pertinent issue.
In this session Gavin Macgregor and Niamh Morrison will take a look at the UK’s discrimination laws: protected characteristics, direct and indirect discrimination, victimisation and harassment. We will focus on who can claim protection, when discrimination is unlawful, who can be liable for discrimination, exceptions, positive action, and, crucially, what you can do as an employer to prevent discrimination from occurring in the first place.
