The deadline of 30 September 2010 for registering for CRC is fast approaching and the administrator of the scheme, the Environment Agency estimate that only one third of participants have registered.
All full participants must register by this deadline and all participants needing to make an information disclosure must make their disclosure by the deadline.
The Environment Agency have discretion in respect of levelling penalties for non compliance. Failure to register by the deadline may attract a £5,000 fine plus £500 per working day (up to 80 days) until the organisation registers.
This equates to a maximum fine of £45,000. The Environment Agency will also publish the names of all late registrants.
Failing to make an information disclosure on time attracts a fine of £500 per half hourly meter for which the late registrant is responsible.
The Environment Agency and the Energy and Climate Change Minister, Greg Barker, are encouraging participants to register now rather than leaving it to the last minute. The CRC Helpdesk is available to help participants through the registration process by calling 08708 506 506 and selecting option 4 or by emailing CRC Help Desk on CRCHelp@environment-agency.gov.uk
For those organisations awaiting further guidance on specific points, legal advice should be sought on the approach to registration.
