CMS is pleased to announce the appointment of James Gliddon as a partner in its market leading Finance Disputes team, which services clients out of London, the South West and Scotland. James will be based in the firm’s Bristol office. James previously spent over eight years with CMS and re-joins from Foot Anstey where he was a partner for six years and Head of Banking & Financial Services disputes.

James specialises in banking and financial services litigation. He has extensive experience in advising major retail banks, finance houses, payment services providers, through to international, private and Islamic Finance banks. In recent years, James has supported his financial services clients with injunctive relief (seeking and resisting), complex receivership/insolvency disputes and a range of bribery and corruption investigations - often involving regulatory (and media) scrutiny.

James is ranked in the Legal 500 UK 2025 directory, where his clients comment: “James Gliddon has tremendous experience of handling lender disputes and brings a client friendly and calm head to every case.”

James has chaired the South West Fraud Forum since 2022 and has recently been appointed as Co-Chair of the UK Fraud Forum. Based on his financial services and fraud practice experience, he works with a range of practitioners and regularly engages with policymakers on the development of fraud prevention/response legislation and strategy.

Tom Dane, Partner and Head of Finance Disputes at CMS UK, comments: "We’re very pleased to welcome James back to the firm. He is a highly regarded disputes practitioner with a proven track record of delivering for a broad range of financial services sector clients. We look forward to adding James to our growing team and to continue to develop the firm’s strong Finance Disputes offering.”

James Gliddon comments: "I’m delighted to be returning to CMS. The opportunity to support clients as part of CMS’ excellent Finance Disputes team is genuinely exciting. They, and the wider Financial Services team at CMS, offer a depth of expertise and personal approach, which is rare but truly valued by clients. I am also very much looking forward to contributing to the firm’s strategic growth plan for the Bristol office which has always been great place for talented lawyers to develop.”

Zoe Burge, CMS Partner and Bristol Office Managing Partner, comments: “We are really looking forward to welcoming James back to our Bristol office and excited to see what he can achieve with the incredible Finance Disputes team that we have in Bristol. James is a superb lawyer and has so much good energy; we are very pleased that he is joining at this key time in the growth of our Bristol office.”

Operating out of offices in London, Bristol and Scotland, the team consists of litigation and international arbitration specialists based within the firm’s market leading Financial Services & Regulatory team.
