Ben McLaughlin is a Senior Associate in the Technology, Media and Telecommunications Department who focuses on advising clients in the sport, videogames, and media sectors.

Ben’s expertise includes sponsorship, celebrity ambassador, production and distribution, media rights exploitation, events bidding and hosting, software development and licensing, and advertising. He also has particular experience in advising the organisers of live sports events. While at CMS, Ben has been seconded to the International Olympic Committee where he advised across a broad range of media and technology contracts. At a previous role, Ben was seconded to a Tennis Grand Slam, World Marathon Major, and the organiser of a UCI WorldTour Cycling event, where he provided legal assistance on all commercial and regulatory matters, including the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic. Ben also has previous experience working in-house for a global news broadcaster.

  • A Middle East-based local organising committee in relation to all commercial and hosting matters for an international cup competition, major European national cup competition and Middle East-based national cup competition.
  • The Premier League in connection with international media rights agreements.
  • The International Cricket Council in connection with its media rights tender process, and media rights and production agreements.
  • A gambling service provider in relation to shirt sponsorship of both a Premier League and Championship football team.
  • Global technology company on the sponsorship of an international athletics event.
  • A media and technology client in relation to production and distribution of audiobooks, podcasts and other audio content.
  • A global social media client in relation to a new e-commerce related product launch in Europe, including in relation to Digital Services Act compliance.
  • A multi-territory service operator in connection with a media rights (including sport media rights) audit in relation to the launch of new products and services.
