Douglas Morton is an Associate in the Infrastructure, Construction and Energy Disputes team with over four years’ post-qualification experience. He advises public, private and third-sector clients on complex, high-value disputes across construction, energy and infrastructure, including litigation, arbitration, adjudication and mediation. Douglas is known for his pragmatic approach to resolving challenges such as building safety issues, contract interpretation and alleged defects. He also has experience supporting transactional work on renewable energy projects and has completed a six-month in-house secondment at a major utility, advising on sponsorship and framework agreements.

Douglas has acted in ICC and ICE arbitrations and Court of Session actions, often involving technically complex matters. He is a member of the Astra Scotland committee of the Society of Construction Law. He is passionate about legal technology and has helped develop protocols for document management and eDiscovery. Douglas captained the Christ’s College, Cambridge team in Series 45 of BBC’s University Challenge.

  • Subcontractor in pursuing adjudications under NEC3 ECS Option B concerning harbour expansion project.
  • Harbour board in pursuing ICE arbitration under NEC3 ECC Option A relating to deepening project.
  • Employer in negotiating settlement of final account under PPC2000 for public-sector housing development.
  • Developer in relation to turbine supply and balance-of-plant agreements for onshore wind project.
  • Distributor of government grant funding on project agreements for decarbonisation works.
