Karen is Of Counsel in the ICE Disputes team. Karen worked in New Zealand and the Middle East before joining CMS in 2012.  

Karen advises clients from across the construction industry on the avoidance and resolution of disputes throughout the project lifecycle, from informal resolution to adjudication, expert determination and litigation, with a particular focus on data centres, large infrastructure and PFI projects.

Relevant experience

  • An appellant in an appeal to the Supreme Court which considered a number of issues of significance for those in construction, real estate and insurance industries arising out of the new Building Safety Act.
  • A developer in relation to disputes with its supply chain arising out of the construction of several data centres.
  • A contractor in respect of arbitral proceedings against its insurer in relation to claims arising out of the construction of biomass/ Energy-from- Waste (EfW) plants in the United Kingdom.
  • A Project Company in relation to a range of defects in an acute hospital, including disputes with the NHS Trust, construction contractor (including an expert determination) and FM contractor and fire authority enforcement action.
