Matt is an Associate in the CMS UK Employment team. He advises employers on the full range of contentious and non-contentious employment law matters, with particular experience in Employment Tribunal litigation, workplace investigations, and strategic HR advisory work.

Matt has experience advising on a number of sensitive workplace matters, including claims and investigations involving allegations of whistleblowing and sexual harassment.

He also advises on the employment aspects of corporate transactions, including due diligence, TUPE, redundancy issues and post-completion employment matters.

Matt is currently on secondment as an in-house employment lawyer to a leading global technology business, where he advises on a broad range of employment matters and works closely with HR and business stakeholders to manage employment risk within a large multinational organisation.

Before joining CMS, Matt worked in the employment teams of two international law firms, advising clients across sectors including technology, financial services, pharmaceuticals, retail, manufacturing, higher education and telecoms.

  • A leading global technology business on a broad range of employment matters, including Employment Tribunal litigation, strategic HR advisory issues and senior employee relations matters, while on secondment as in-house counsel.
  • A leading global life sciences company on a broad range of employment law matters, including complex Employment Tribunal litigation, day-to-day HR advisory issues and a sensitive workplace investigation concerning allegations of sexual harassment.
  • A major UK bank in relation to an indirect sex discrimination and equal pay claim in the Employment Tribunal.
  • An NHS Foundation Trust in successfully defending a complex and high-value whistleblowing claim at final hearing, involving over 20 alleged protected disclosures, more than 50 alleged detriments and evidence from 21 witnesses.
  • Two of the UK’s largest supermarkets in separate large-scale multi-party equal pay litigation matters, including the defence of claims involving thousands of claimants.
  • A separate NHS Foundation Trust in successfully resisting an application for interim relief arising from a whistleblowing dispute.
  • A different NHS Foundation Trust in relation to a race discrimination and unfair dismissal claim, including securing a costs order.
  • A fintech business in relation to sensitive workplace investigations involving senior employees, and the management of related senior exits.
  • An international manufacturing business on the employment aspects of the closure of a major operational site, including a collective redundancy exercise and consultation with recognised trade unions.
  • A multinational telecommunications company in relation to a settlement agreement project, including senior executive exits.
