Employment Disputes

Back to Dispute Resolution

The CMS UK Employment team works seamlessly across our UK offices in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen, Sheffield, Manchester as well as London, Reading and Bristol. We act for a number clients across eight key sectors, handling employment tribunals as a portfolio, covering the spectrum of claims from wages or holiday pay claims, “straightforward” unfair dismissal and unlawful deductions claims, to extremely complex and high value whistleblowing, discrimination and breach of contract claims as well as union backed claims, and judicial mediations.

This requires a different approach to dealing with ad hoc claims for employer clients; understanding the client’s overall strategy and approach to claims; developing a consistent approach; leveraging synergies in terms of claim management. In addition to providing technically excellent legal advice, we are well versed in troubleshooting and brainstorming with our clients, to deliver, together, terrific results, meaning that clients benefit from our strength of expertise in end to end tribunal management across the UK.

“CMS has a great ability to handle complex and sophisticated litigation.”

The Law and the Little Things: Microaggressions in the workplace
Microaggressions in the workplace Most organisations today recognise the importance of equity, diversity and inclusion within their workplaces, in particular, how to build an inclusive culture.  However, organisations need to go beyond warm words to deliver on commitments in practice. Microaggressions are subtle acts of discrimination; unfortunately commonplace behaviours that many write off as too trivial to mention - the “little things” that just happen. Though “little” in name, these occurrences can become large by nature, and businesses must be aware of the deep and often devastating impact of ignoring them.

Protection from protests
Protest on the streets, protest online, even litigation used as a vehicle for protest. Protestors targeting a business may be standing in a crowd, holding a placard or shouting slogans. But they may also be behind a computer screen or pursuing a claim against the business through the courts. They may even be working inside the business, preparing to compromise its systems or leak confidential information. Whether they are activists, employees or customers, all these protestors may present a substantial challenge and a real threat to businesses, in areas including its security, reputation and bottom line.
