Max is an Associate in in the CMS UK employment team working in the London office. Max advises on the full range of contentious and non-contentious employment law matters. 

Max regularly acts for respondent employers in the Employment Tribunal, defending complex and high-value cases, including sensitive in-employment claims. Max has experience advising clients on, and investigating as part of an external investigation team, complex and multi-faceted workplace investigations relating to sensitive matters such as whistleblowing, discrimination and bullying/harassment. Max also advises clients on employee competition issues (enforcement of restrictive covenants and protection of confidential information) and regularly supports our Corporate/M&A team on people issues in transactions. 

Max spent over a year on secondment as an in-house employment lawyer at a global technology company, where he advised on their portfolio of Employment Tribunal litigation and provided day-to-day employment law advice to the company’s HR and people managers, including on disciplinary and grievance investigations/processes, executive leavers/senior exits and redundancies. 

Max works across a range of sectors, including in particular Financial Services and Tech and Media. 

Max is also a strong supporter of CMS’ pro bono activities, regularly providing employment law advice to one of our charity partners. 

Relevant experience

  • A financial platform in respect of a high-value TUPE and bonus claim in the Employment Tribunal.
  • A media business on a complex external workplace investigation, investigating allegations of whistleblowing, discrimination and bullying/harassment. 
  • Part of an external investigation team to investigate allegations of discrimination and bullying/harassment at a bank. 
  • A hedge fund in respect of the enforcement of restrictive covenants against a departing senior employee.
