Richard is Of Counsel in the Infrastructure, Construction and Energy (ICE) Disputes group.

Richard is experienced in acting for all parties in the construction chain in relation to a wide range of disputes including payment, defects, design liability, delay, extensions of time and liquidated damages. He has acted for clients in all forms of dispute resolution including dispute board proceedings, arbitration, adjudication, mediation, and TCC proceedings. He regularly provides clients with strategic project advice, dispute avoidance strategies together with risk management and analysis advice.

Richard has advised clients in construction projects and disputes in a variety of jurisdictions as diverse as Uganda, Angola, Israel, Japan, Korea, USA and New Zealand together with a number of countries in the Middle East and Europe.

Relevant experience

  • A Qatar based Contractor in an Arbitration concerning a dispute involving defects in a luxury hotel and apartment complex.
  • A Japanese and Korean JV Contractor in a series of Dispute Board proceedings in respect of groundwork defects concerning a suspension bridge in East Africa.
  • A Qatar based investor group, with regard to termination rights on a luxury hotel brand in London. 
  • A Singapore based investor in a TCC claim regarding defects in its student accommodation premises situated in the UK. 
  • A multi-investor SPV client in respect of a series of disputes at a large UK hospital.  Preparing multiple sets of sequential adjudication proceedings and co-ordinating the preparation of a number of expert reports.
  • A Japanese Contractor in a dispute with its international consortium partners in relation to delays and defects arising out of a large EPC project in Indonesia. 
  • An investment company in the TCC concerning various defects which had arisen from the development of a set of commercial premises. 
  • A UK developer in the TCC regarding defects in a large apartment complex.
  • A UK Local Government Authority in respect of a series of utility bench-marking adjudications on a large BSF Project.
