Steven is a commercial litigation partner with over 20 years’ experience in advising domestic and international clients on dispute resolution strategies and litigation in the English courts and before arbitration tribunals.  He handles contentious matters for major corporate clients and high net worth individuals across a range of sectors, with a particular focus on Technology, Media & Communications.  

Steven regularly advises clients on complex contractual claims, shareholder and joint venture disputes, music rights (including disputes before the Copyright Tribunal), agency and fraud matters.

Steven is based in London and co-heads the firm’s impressive and growing Litigation and Arbitration team.

Relevant experience

  • Broadcasters on music licensing terms imposed on them, including Copyright Tribunal challenges.
  • Fraudulent misrepresentation and breach of warranty claim relating to forecasts made in a share sale and purchase agreement pursuant to which the claimants invested in a Luxembourg company.
  • Earn-out disputes, both pursuing and defending for corporate clients.
  • Major asset tracing exercise in conjunction with English trustees in bankruptcy.
  • A media/entertainment company on a number of channel distribution contract disputes relating to various jurisdictions.
  • A high net worth individual on a multi-million pound recovery action against a defendant relating to joint and several liability and a personal indemnity in respect of significant bank debt advanced in relation to a real estate development project.
  • Major brands in respect of claims under Commercial Agents (Council Directive) Regulations 1993.
  • The liquidators of a group of companies on a complex, multi-jurisdictional trade finance fraud perpetuated by the former owner of the group in Hong Kong, Russia, Scandinavia, the US and the UK.
  • Restitutionary claim in relation to significant, long-term overcharging for industrial electricity supply.
  • A high net worth individual on a claim against a marque car manufacturer concerning a contract for the sale of a very limited edition, performance sports car.
