Tom is a Senior Associate in the Energy and Infrastructure department at CMS. Tom has 10 years of experience in advising various sponsors and lenders in primary, operational and secondary deals on a numerous national and international energy and infrastructure projects. Tom works across a number of sectors, with a principal focus on the clean and flexible energy renewables sector. Tom has extensive experience in advising on the contracting (including construction, operation, supply) and commercial aspects of the projects, leading the negotiation, drafting and due diligence of project documents and also has a deep knowledge of what is required to make projects bankable. A number of the projects Tom has advised on have achieved debt financing.

Relevant experience

  • Fidra Energy in relation to the development (including BESS, BOP and related service and maintenance contracts) in relation to a 1.4GW / 2.8GWh battery storage project in South Yorkshire.
  • InterGen on the construction and maintenance arrangements of two 500MW BESS projects in Scotland.
  • Zenobe in relation to the procurement and construction of its 400MW / 800MWh battery storage project in Eccles, Scotland.
  • Masdar Arlington on the negotiation of BESS, BOP, SCADA and LTSA contracts for the development of a portfolio of battery energy storage projects in the UK (250MW / 580MWh).
  • Cero Generation in relation to the development (including BESS, BOP, maintenance and grid works agreements) of its co-located ~100MW solar and battery storage project in Bramley, UK.
  • SSE in relation to the EPC and O&M on several solar projects in the UK.
  • Statera in relation to the contractual arrangements for the development of its 450MW gas peaker flexible generation plant in Thurrock.
  • Senior Lenders in respect of the due diligence and negotiation of the project documents of a EUR 310m portfolio of three onshore Nordic wind farms.
  • Octopus Investments as the purchaser of a 29.7MW onshore wind farm in Fraisthorpe.
  • Flotation in relation to the Greenvolt, CENOS and Morecambe offshore wind projects.
  • Biffa as co-investor in relation to debt financed Newhurst and Protos energy from waste projects.
  • The Project Company (with Equitix and Iona Capital as sponsors) on the GBP 75m Bridgwater 7.75MW energy from waste project.
  • AG/PIC in relation to the financing of a PPP York University Student Accommodation Project.
  • BBGI in relation to a street lighting project in Northern Ireland.
  • CountyRoute in relation to various operational aspects of the A130 road project.
