Leipzig – CMS has advised the founders and business angels of calimoto GmbH on the sale of a majority stake to Russmedia Equity Partners. calimoto GmbH is the developer of the world’s leading app for motorcyclists, featuring a unique twisty roads algorithm. The founders, Sebastian Dambeck, Hans-Joachim Allenfort and Luca Osten, retain a significant equity interest in the company and will remain managing directors.
calimoto is the first multi-functional app specifically for bikers. With more than four million users across 154 countries, calimoto is now the top-selling and most successful motorcycle app worldwide. The app acts as a touring and navigation service that uses a unique twisty roads algorithm to plan routes with the most twisty and scenic roads. Because calimoto combines the functions of a navigation device and a tracker, it enables users to share their experience with other bikers and to rate their own trips.
Working with Russmedia Equity Partners, calimoto will continue its growth strategy, focusing particularly on developing the motorcycle community within the app and expanding into the American market.
Russmedia Equity Partners is an investor and operator of online marketplaces, aggregators and SaaS solutions. The company operates a profitable portfolio of more than 20 digital businesses in eight countries. Based in Liechtenstein, Russmedia Equity Partners currently has EUR 200 million in assets under management (AUM) and invests in successful digital companies operating in attractive niche markets.
