CMS is pleased to announce the appointment of Sunil Mawkin as a partner in its Infrastructure, Construction and Energy (ICE) Disputes team, based in London. Sunil joins from A&O Shearman.

Sunil brings over a decade of experience advising on high-value, complex construction and energy disputes across global markets, with a particular focus on international arbitration. Having spent five years in Singapore and developed a strong presence in the Asia-Pacific region, Sunil is recognised for his expertise in large-scale energy projects, including LNG, natural gas and renewables. He is ranked as a “Leading Associate” in International Commercial Arbitration by Legal 500.

Sunil advises major international energy companies, financial institutions, and corporates on disputes under the ICC, LCIA, SIAC and HKIAC rules. He is also highly regarded for his work as project counsel, helping clients manage and resolve disputes during project execution.

A regular speaker on the international construction law circuit, Sunil has recently been appointed Co-chair of the Society of Construction Law (SCL) India Young International Council which  launched in May 2025.

Adrian Bell, Co-head of the Infrastructure, Construction and Energy Disputes Group at CMS, comments: “We’re delighted to welcome Sunil to the firm. He has an outstanding track record in arbitration and his appointment is a significant addition to our Infrastructure, Construction and Energy Disputes team. Sunil’s arrival comes at a pivotal time as we continue to expand our international disputes offering. His experience in key markets, such as India and Singapore, will be invaluable as we pursue our ambitious growth strategy.”

Sunil Mawkin comments: “CMS has a market-leading reputation for contentious construction and energy advice and will provide me with a strong platform to further grow and develop my practice. I’m excited to join a firm with such a collaborative culture and a strategic focus on key growth markets that are so well-aligned with my experience and ambitions.”

Sunil’s appointment underscores CMS’s commitment to investing in top talent and further strengthening its position as a leading advisor to the construction and energy sectors worldwide.
