CMS advises mi2-factory on financing round to advance breakthrough semiconductor technology
Leipzig – CMS advised mi2-factory GmbH, a leading innovator in energy filter technology for ion implementation, on a successful financing round. The financing round was headed by Ion Beam Applications S.A. and Wallonie Entreprendre International, lead investors from Belgium. The funding, further supported by Stiftung Thüringer Beteiligungskapital (managed by bm-t beteiligungsmanagement thüringen gmbh) and an existing investor, marks a significant step in scaling mi2-factory’s pioneering technology for power semiconductor manufacturing. The funding will enable mi2-factory to develop an industrial-scale demonstrator, showcasing its patented "EFIITRON" technology to potential customers in existing semiconductor fabs.
A CMS team led by Dr. Joerg Lips and under the direction of Dr. Helge Rieckhoff provided comprehensive legal advice to mi2-factory throughout the financing round, ensuring the seamless structuring and execution of the transaction. CMS regularly advises innovative companies and investors on strategic growth projects.
mi2-factory was founded in 2016 at the high-tech location of Jena. The process technology developed, distributed and marketed by the company is energy-filtered ion implantation (EFII)©, which is of interest to microchip manufacturers, in combination with the EFIITRON production machine. The unique EFII© makes it possible to produce completely new chip designs for silicon carbide (SiC) power components. The chips are used in the fields of electromobility, photovoltaics, wind power, traction, industrial drives and power grids. The technology significantly reduces the costs of manufacturing power electronics by over 30% while improving the performance and yield of microchips.
Wallonie Entreprendre International (WE International) is the international branch of the public investment company Wallonie Entreprendre. It is dedicated to finance Walloon companies with projects abroad that generate significant economic benefits for the Walloon region.
