Hamburg – The Canadian power producer Northland Power Inc. (NPI) and RWE Renewables GmbH have agreed to form a joint venture for the co-development of a 1.3 gigawatts cluster of offshore wind projects located in the German North Sea. The three wind projects are expected to achieve commercial operations between 2026 and 2028. Approvals by the regulatory authorities are already granted. The closing of the deal took place in January 2022.
A CMS team headed by lead partner Dr Holger Kraft advised NPI on all legal aspects of the transaction. The engagement resulted from a long-standing client relationship with NPI, that already included the acquisition of shares in the offshore wind project Nordsee One from RWE.
RWE was comprehensively advised by Eversheds Sutherland. The notarisation was executed by Dr. Hauschild in Düsseldorf.
