CMS advises on investment in Kubrick Group

18 November 2021

CMS has advised the founders and shareholders of Kubrick Group, a leading provider of next-generation technology consulting, on an investment by Bowmark Capital, the mid-market private equity firm.

Founded in 2016 by Tim Smeaton and Simon Walker, Kubrick addresses the acute global technology skills shortage, enabling companies to implement digital and data transformation. The business is at the forefront of creating a high quality, diverse workforce, and has trained and deployed close to 1,000 graduates into data, AI and cloud engineering roles at approximately 100 blue chip clients.

Since 2018, revenues and profits have increased by more than 50% per annum, reflecting Kubrick’s unique capabilities in the fields of data engineering, data management, machine learning and data product consultancy – coupled with the accelerated adoption of digital technologies globally. Kubrick intends to further expand its business in the UK and abroad, invest in technology enablement, develop its client offerings and enhance the career opportunities for its graduates.

Alasdair Steele, CMS Corporate partner, comments: “We are delighted to have advised Kubrick Group on this exciting investment in its business. Kubrick Group is helping companies to bridge key skill gaps and onboard diverse talent, and this attractive proposition has led to impressive growth. We look forward to seeing Kubrick Group go from success to success as it further develops in partnership with Bowmark Capital.”

Narinder Jugpal, CMS Corporate partner, comments: “Kubrick Group’s unique approach is clearly making waves. Its innovative offering has a clear focus on helping its clients to work smarter to overcome their business challenges. The scale of the market opportunity feels quite significant and Bowmark Capital, with its successful track record of investing in innovative high-growth companies, should be a fantastic partner for Kubrick Group as it further expands its platform beyond the UK.”

The CMS team was led by Corporate partners Alasdair Steele and Narinder Jugpal, assisted by senior associate Ben Booker and associates Jennifer Ross and Jas Randhawa; Tax partner Aaron Fairhurst and senior associate Jason Todd; and Incentives partner Andy Quayle, of counsel Cathy Wears and associate Mala Patel.
