Notwithstanding the extraordinary times we’ve all been operating in, the insurance sector continues to deal with fast-paced changes. Insurance companies should keep up with changing regulations and market trends that will impact on their day-to-day operations and long-term business.
It has become crucial for (re)insurers, brokers, their risk managers and general counsels to get the right insight and advice across a wide range of claims and coverage, and regulatory and corporate issues.
To deliver the expert responses that the insurance market needs, the CMS Insurance Group has developed a comprehensive programme for 2023.

Big Data, artificial intelligence, blockchain solutions, along with the innovative use of web platforms and mobile technology have brought distinct advantages to the insurance sector. However, to fully take advantage of these advances in technology and transform their value chain and business model, market participants must adapt to shifting regulatory environment.
During this webinar, CMS Insurance specialists presented case studies to shed light on the outstanding opportunities that stem from the current rules on insurance distribution and digitalisation technologies. This event is also helping traditional insurers and InsurTech companies prepare for future regulations, so that the industry and its customers can continue to benefit from these technological and innovative advances.

People issues can be complex for UK employers to navigate. This is particularly true for UK insurers who, in addition to a myriad of employment laws, need to be familiar with multiple layers of regulatory issues. ‘Best practice’ from an HR and employment law perspective can sometimes sit uncomfortably with the prioritisation of regulatory risk. This panel discussion session looks at a number of these issues including: the FCA/PRA whistle blowing regime; Solvency II remuneration requirements; conduct risk and ‘fitness and propriety’; regulatory references, and the ever increasing regulatory focus on culture and non-financial misconduct.

The surety bond market is continuously expanding, with an increasing number of companies entering the field in what is now defined as a massive insurance business. However, the market shows diverse characteristics and potentialities within each country, reflecting economic climates, investor preferences, and regulatory frameworks.
In our webinar, we provided a concise overview of the present market scenario in Italy, Spain, Romania and Brazil (including market size, notable trends, and key players), emphasizing the main distinctions and the recent developments.
Reference were also made to regulatory / procedural aspects and the possible integration of advanced technologies such as blockchain, AI, or digital platforms.
While major incidents such as the grounding of the EVER GIVEN capture the headlines, attritional losses from containers overboard are increasingly common. As ships get bigger and containers are stacked higher, the problems for world trade supply chains and the insurance markets which support them become increasingly expensive. These casualties give rise to complex claims involving legal issues in many jurisdictions, where experience and an understanding of global options counts when it comes to avoiding pitfalls and adopting the right strategies to respond cost-effectively.
Our marine experts in Hong Kong and Europe, including partners Andrew Horton, Steven Wise, Anthony Woo and David McKie, along with Master Mariner Richard Oakley and Of Counsel Helen Tang highlighted some of the issues these incidents present for carriers, charterers, and insurers dealing with the property and liability claims, including environmental issues, rights to limit liability, practical tips for effective claims response, tactical advantages of bringing claims in particular jurisdictions and ways to maximise potential subrogation recoveries.

Warranty and indemnity (W&I) insurance continues to be an integral part of the M&A process. Both buyers and sellers increasingly acknowledge the added value of transferring the risk of a sellers’ breach of the representations and warranties under an acquisition agreement to a W&I insurer. Successfully handling a claim under a W&I insurance policy often requires a thorough understanding of the SPA, its interaction with the insurance policy and any applicable statutory provisions. In this webinar our international panel of CMS experts focused on claims trends, recent developments and practical lessons learned from handling claims under W&I insurance policies across a range of jurisdictions
