Frankfurt, 07.11.2024 – Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH), one of the world's leading manufacturers of discrete semiconductors and passive electronic components, has agreed to acquire Birkelbach Kondensatortechnik GmbH and other related assets. The transaction is expected to close by December 31, 2024, subject to satisfaction of customary closing conditions. Birkelbach, based in Erndtebrück, Germany, is a major manufacturer of metallized technical films for use in capacitor dielectrics.
This acquisition will enable Vishay to secure the supply of metallized film materials to meet the growing demand for high-voltage and high-performance capacitors for smart grid infrastructure projects. Birkelbach, a long-standing Vishay supplier, is to be integrated into Vishay's capacitor division and production capacity is to be strengthened through investment in metallization equipment. Vishay plans to ensure security of supply for existing Birkelbach customers, thereby guaranteeing a reliable supply for industrial network applications.
