Frankfurt/Main – PreOmics GmbH, which is headquartered in Martinsried near Munich, has raised EUR 13.5 million in a Series B round of financing from Bruker Corporation, a NASDAQ-listed US tech company in the analytical instrumentation sector. PreOmics is a developer of innovative automation and sample preparation tools and consumables for proteomics analysis by mass spectrometry. Proteomics relates to analysis of the proteins that are active in a cell under certain conditions. Therapeutic approaches based on protein analysis are thought to offer great potential for developing new active agents, e.g. to fight cancer or infections.
In a parallel secondary transaction linked to the financing round, Bruker acquired the stakes held by several PreOmics investors, such as High-Tech Gründerfonds (HTGF), Think.Health Ventures and certain business angels. Bruker thus now holds a majority of the shares in PreOmics. Financial details of the secondary transaction were not disclosed.
A CMS team headed by lead partner Dr Hendrik Hirsch advised Bruker on all legal aspects of exclusive participation in the Series B round of financing, including the secondary transaction. Bruker Corporation is a longstanding client of CMS Germany and has been advised by CMS on several acquisitions and disposals in the past.
