The Government’s White Paper is split into six areas (in line with its Call for Evidence for the review of the Gambling Act 2005). Set out below is a summary of the Government’s proposals in the area of advertising and promotions.

Incentives: The Gambling Commission will consult on new controls for the design and targeting of incentives so they do not encourage excessive or harmful gambling.

Opt-ins: The Gambling Commission will consult on new controls for requirements in respect of opting-in for online bonuses and offers.

Safer gambling messaging: DCMS and the Department of Health and Social Care will work together with the Gambling Commission to establish safer gambling messaging and how it should be used.

Sponsorship: No further restrictions are being introduced in respect of gambling sponsorship of sports teams and/or events.

Marketing affiliates: The Government is not proposing to introduce a licensing regime for marketing affiliates.
