Footnotes and Notes

On 1 January 2016, legislation came into force which regulated online gambling in Lithuania for the first time. Under the new regime, operators based in the EEA will be able to apply for a licence to provide online gambling services to customers in Lithuania. The law authorises the following games to be offered online: table games (roulette, card and dice games); slot machines; betting; and bingo.

On 1 July 2020, amendments to the Gaming Law came into force detailing requirements for obtaining a licence, reasons for the revocation and suspension of a licence, and new sanctions for infringements of the Gaming Law.

On 1 July 2022, significant amendments to the Gaming Law came into force. The amendments abolished the pre-requisite of operating land-based gambling establishments in order to conduct online gambling activities, which was introduced in 2016. As of 1 July 2022, entry into Lithuanian online gambling market no longer requires land-based venues, only a dedicated online gambling licence.
