| Footnotes and Notes | Online gambling is regulated in Sweden and subject to local licensing. The market opened in January 2019. The number of licences that can be issued is not limited. There are two types of licences private operators providing online gambling can apply for: licence for commercial online gambling or licence for online betting. A licence for commercial online gambling comprises gambling such as online casino, online bingo and online slot machines. A licence for online betting comprises betting such as betting on horse races, betting on poker, virtual sports and fantasy sports. Please note that as of 1 July 2023, operators who manufacture, supply, install and/or adapt gambling software used when providing online betting and/or commercial gambling to the Swedish market will need a Swedish permit. [1] Only state-owned companies and non-profit associations and/or registered religious communities with a purpose of public benefit may receive a licence for lottery. Please note that online bingo is not seen as lottery in the Swedish Gambling Act. | |
