He has significant experience in tax litigation and dispute resolution. He regularly represents clients in high-stakes tax controversies, both in administrative proceedings and before Belgian and international courts. Alain is particularly sought after for his ability to navigate complex and sensitive disputes with a strategic and pragmatic approach.
He also acts for private clients, including business owners, executives, and high-net-worth individuals, advising them on wealth structuring, succession planning, and cross-border tax issues.
He advises a diverse clientele ranging from innovative start-ups and scale-ups to multinational groups and high-net-worth individuals, often facing complex tax challenges or undergoing strategic transformations.
His practice primarily focuses on clients operating in the technology and media, life sciences, and real estate sectors.
In addition to his advisory and litigation work, Alain regularly represents clients before governmental authorities in connection with the negotiation of agreements and advance rulings, as well as on policy matters, including the drafting and amendment of tax legislation.
Alongside his professional activities, Alain teaches tax law and tax procedure in the Master's degree program in accounting and taxation organised jointly by the EPHEC, HELHa and UCL-Mons. He is also a member of the editorial board of the Revue générale du contentieux fiscal (RGCF).
He has authored several articles in national and international legal journals and regularly speaks at conferences and delivers lectures on Belgian and international tax topics. In 2022, he published a book titled La responsabilité des pouvoirs publics en matière fiscale (Larcier), a groundbreaking analysis of government liability in tax disputes, which is already cited as a reference work in the Belgian legal landscape.
Alain is listed as a key lawyer for tax in Belgium by Legal 500.
He holds a Master’s degree in Law from the Catholic University of Louvain (UCL) and a specialised Master’s degree in Tax Law from the Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB). He was admitted to the Brussels Bar in 2017 and is fluent in French, Dutch and English, with knowledge of Spanish.
