In addition, he represents clients in court disputes and before authorities, especially in the areas of medical technology, software development, licensing, IT outsourcing & data protection.
Klaus Pateter also specialises in advising tech start-ups during all growth phases. He leads the start-up group of CMS Austria and coordinates equIP, CMS's renowned legal accelerator for tech start-ups.
His clients include technology companies from various industries, including healthcare, FinTech, blockchain, online platforms, crowdfunding, data analytics and software engineering, as well as technology start-ups and investors.
Klaus Pateter has extensive experience in the areas of IT & IP law, data protection, corporate law/M&A, venture capital and insolvency law from his many years of work in a renowned law firm in Graz.
Prior to this, he worked for more than three years as an assistant at the Institute for Civil Procedure Law and Insolvency Law at the Karl Franzens University in Graz, where he taught insolvency law as well as Austrian and international civil procedure law.
In 2018 Klaus Pateter completed a master’s in law (LLM) at the renowned Columbia Law School in New York City and successfully passed the New York Bar Exam.

Klaus Pateter is the author of numerous articles on IP/IT law and insolvency law. Most recently, he published a comprehensive work on the crisis-specific warning obligations of lawyers, notaries, auditors and management consultants.
