CMS advises Hanseatic Energy Hub on entry of Dow

21/04/2022

Hamburg – The chemical company Dow is participating as a further partner in Hanseatic Energy Hub GmbH, the project company for the future LNG terminal at Stade industrial park (Lower Saxony), near the port of Hamburg. Dow is coming on board as an additional shareholder via Dow Deutschland Anlagengesellschaft mbH. Dow will also provide, among other things, the necessary land in the Stade industrial park for the LNG terminal and heat for the regasification process. Details of the participation and the cooperation were not disclosed.

A CMS team headed by lead partners Dr Hilke Herchen and Dr Holger Kraft advised Hanseatic Energy Hub GmbH on all legal aspects of the participation by Dow.

Hanseatic Energy Hub is the developer of the future LNG terminal in Stade. From 2026 onwards, the terminal is expected to provide regasification capacity of 12 billion cubic metres a year. The use of the waste heat from production at Dow to heat the LNG allows a CO2 neutral operation. It will be possible to feed gas from the terminal into the German gas network and cover local gas requirements. Plans additionally include loading onto LNG tankers, bunker barges, trucks and rail. The name “Hanseatic Energy Hub” highlights the fact that the LNG terminal combines all the elements required for future energy solutions, rather than being restricted to LNG. Over the longer term, it will be able to offer energy carriers like ammonia, for example.
Partners Group, a leading global private markets asset manager, had already invested in Hanseatic Energy Hub at the end of 2020 and the Belgian energy infrastructure group Fluxys joined in the summer of 2021
